Exodus 12:36
March 9, 2007“Now the Children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing. And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight o the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. Thus they plundered the Egyptians” Exodus 12:35-36
Here we find that not only does God plague Pharaoh to the point he tells the children of Israel to leave…but God also uses Egypt to bless Israel with much wealth as a going away present! What an awesome God we serve! With all of this in mind…let’s take time to review what we have seen happen so far in the lives of Jacob’s children…starting from the time they came to be in Egypt…to the time they came out of Egypt. We will do so by highlighting seven key events from the story thus far. Here we go…
1) There is a famine in the land. (Gen 42:5) 2) There is a journey down to Egypt by God’s chosen. (Gen 42:1-5) 3) Time passes and in the book of the Exodus, we find a Pharaoh who does not recognize the God of Abraham, or know that Israel is His chosen bride. (Exodus 5:2) 4) Pharaoh brings Israel into his servitude. (Exodus 1:13) 5) God plagues Pharaoh and Egypt because of His people Israel. (Exodus 3:19-20). 6) Finally, Pharaoh tells Israel to go!! Get Out!! (Exodus 12:31) 7) When they go, they plunder Egypt as we just saw, leaving with silver, gold, and other riches. (Exodus 3:22, 12:35-36) 8) Finally, (fast forward) Moses gets to see the Promised Land. (Deuteronomy 32:48-49)
Now…pay special attention as we go back in time a bit and look at seven key events from the lives of Abram and Sarai as found in Genesis chapter 12. Notice the similarities… 1) Verse 10 There is a famine in the land; and 2) Abram went down to Egypt. 3) Verses 11-13 The Pharaoh of Egypt does not know that Sarai is Abrams wife. 4) Verse 15 Pharaoh takes Sarai into his servitude. 5) Verse 17 God plagues Pharaoh because of Sarai, Abrams wife. 6) Verse 19 Pharaoh tells Abram to take his wife and Go! 7) Verse 16 They leave Egypt with much wealth. 8)Now jump ahead a little to Genesis 13: 14-15 and you will see God showing Abram the Promised Land!! Coincidence? I believe not.
In Isaiah 46:8-10 God gives an interesting instruction concerning things of the past. He says…”Recall to mind, O you transgressors. Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done”. As I have shared before, Paul twice informs us that these events from the lives of our fathers were written down for the children…those upon whom the ends of the ages fall. That’s us. God has been revealing parts of His prophetic plan thru the events of our ancestors. From the very beginning…literally…God had a plan and He has everything under control. All we have to do is trust, obey and watch, as the past unfolds before our very eyes… “Behold, the day of the Lord is coming, And your spoil will be divided in your midst. For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem…Then the Lord will go forth and fight against those nations, As He fights in the day of battle. And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives…Judah also will fight at Jerusalem And the wealth of all the surrounding nations Shall be gathered together; Gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance”.
