Christians voting for Obama…a Sign of the Times

November 16, 2008

“The first thing I’d do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act.  That’s the first thing that I’d do.”  — Senator Barack Obama, speaking to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, July 17, 2007

And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.  But he who endures to the end shall be saved.”  Matthew 24:12-13

Have you ever been witness to something that caused you to just stop…and wonder at what you were seeing?  In chapter 17 of Revelation we see this happen to the writer John as he is allowed a glimpse into the last of the last days.   He is shown a woman who sits on a scarlet beast, “full of names of blasphemy”.  It describes her as having in her hand a “cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication”.  The Scripture says that upon seeing her, John “marveled with great amazement”.  Why is he so amazed? Is it what he saw or perhaps could it be…who he saw being represented as this woman riding the beast?

Friends, you and I are living in the last of the last days. And those who have eyes to see have been given a front row seat to a spectacle that may for a moment at least, cause us to “marvel with amazement” as did John.  In this latest election for example, we have witnessed with our own eyes many people whom we love, who claim to believe the Bible to be the Word of God and whom profess to be followers of Jesus Christ… actually running to fall into line behind the pied piper named Barry Hussein Obama.  They seem to be truly proud of the fact that they were able to play a part in the election of a socialist President who unashamedly stands for the murdering of babies. Perhaps they can debate against the war in Iraq…perhaps they can attempt to explain to me the merits of stealing from one person and giving it to another in the name of “fairness”…perhaps they can in ignorance actually believe this man can bring peace by negotiating with terrorists thus somehow saving our children from having to ever fight a war against those who wish them dead. Perhaps they can overlook Obama’s twenty year relationship with a “pastor” who spews forth hatred for this nation.  Perhaps…but may God have mercy on them for trying to justify voting for a man who supports infanticide.

Now I am not surprised that Obama won.  I expected those of this world to support this man.  As a friend of mine has said “you should expect a duck to quack like a duck”.  Yet one would also expect a true follower of Christ to stand for the things which Christ stood for… and to vehemently stand against those things which He would stand opposed…NO MATTER THE COST!  Can any of you professing Christians out there who voted for Obama honestly look me in the eyes and tell me you believe Jesus would be pleased with your decision?  Yet professing Christians support for a man who does not recognize the sanctity of human life is but a symptom giving hint to something spoken of long ago in the Bible.  It’s called… apostasy.  In 2 Thessalonians Paul spoke of a falling away that would come just before the “man of sin” is revealed and before Messiah’s return.  As people in these last days slide into lawlessness, Paul warned us that “God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness”.   In fact, Paul mentions that even in his day the “mystery of lawlessness” was already at work.  As you should know by now, when the Bible speaks of lawlessness it does not mean anything other than the forsaking of His Torah.

Today it becomes increasingly evident that we are in the midst of this great falling away spoken of in Scripture.  While many profess Christ with their mouths, their actions are telling.  Paul described them as ones who “profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.” Sadly, Jesus spoke of a “lukewarm assembly” of people whom he would “vomit” out of His mouth.  Jude spoke of men who would creep into our folds, men who would “turn the grace of our God into lewdness”. In short, while it breaks our hearts, it should come as no surprise to the student of Scripture that there will be many who will indeed fall away.

As John beheld the woman in the Revelation he heard a voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.  For her sins have reached to heaven and God has remembered her iniquities.”

Today you and I still have time to repent and turn back to His Torah.  We still have time to distance ourselves from all evil and stand opposed to those things our Master would oppose.  We still have time to consider the terrifying words spoken by Jesus when He said in Matthew 7 that “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?  “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!  But time is running out.

Friends, it is not my place to judge who the true Christians are.  It is my place however to share with you what Scripture says concerning these last days and the importance of clinging to Messiah and His Torah with all of your heart.  It is your very life.  (Matthew 4:4)  Since we know beforehand that lawlessness will increase in this world and that many will fall away, it should behoove us to constantly check our hearts…always seeking to line our lives up with Scripture, no matter how unpopular…no matter the cost.   Peter told us to “beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked.” (2Peter 3:17)

Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near”.  Luke 21:28

  1. I agree with you and encourage you to keep telling the truth. A person would have to be blind to the word of God to vote for what Democrats stand for . I don’t understand it but I see it in churches all around. I think the blind is leading the blind. God bless you, Doylene

  2. Thanks Doylene for the encouragement…I don’t expect to recieve much for this post!

    God bless you…Tim

  3. During and after the election and Obama won, of course, I was sadden that so many of my fellow brothers and sisters fell in love with him. Actually the majority of my church voted for him. I still don’t understand how you can know God and think in this way and elect such a person. I don’t understand how a child of God can vote for a person who strongly encourage and fund the killing of babies, but only think of historical events and race issues. I came across your article and was comforted to know that someone out there truly knows our Lord. I thought I was going crazy. Needless to say I left that church.

  4. Excellent article and sadly true!!!

  5. i would like to subscribe to your blog—are you messianic?

    • Welcome. Yes, I think that would describe me well. I believe that Yeshua is the Messiah and that we should as His Disciples walk as He walked.. I am saved by the grace of God thru faith but created for good works. Sorry this so short but I am currently on my iPhone!! May God bless you in your studies and will look forward to any questions or comments… I don’t know it all but love to share and sharpen iron with those who love Him. Tim

  6. I realize it is now the 2nd time around for Obama, but let me ask you a question Tim: Did you “vote”, (cast your OPINION), in ANY presidential race? And if yes, WHY? What has a believers “opinion” got to do with this worlds trash? And, if you believe that there is a “scriptural” answer to my questions, PLEASE, by all means, point out the references. I would be quite interested in knowing what business a believer has in participating in the selection of WHO is going to run the U.S.Corporation. And believe me, the U.S. is a corporation, not a nation.. and certainly not a nation of covenant keeping souls.

    • Judy,

Thanks for stopping by. I am a bit perplexed at your tone towards me. (or at least your perceived tone) Maybe you are right and I should not vote. My understanding of Scripture is one that progresses with study and I admit many changes over time as I come to a little bit greater knowledge. So…why do I for now at least, vote?

As you probably know, Scripture tells us not to “follow a crowd to do evil”. (Exodus 23:2) One way I take this to mean, is that we who are in Messiah have a duty to stand up and for what is good and true…to protect the innocent for example, as best we can. The unborn for instance are not just the “worlds trash” as I am sure you agree. They are precious in His sight. Scripture tells us the He loved the whole world enough to send His only Son. If He was willing to die for this world, I can surely out of love for His people at least try to prevent harm to many including my own family by casting a vote against a candidate who has no problem disposing of the inconvenient. If you could have cast a vote in this election that would decide the outcome, would you do so or remain quiet? Would you bear any responsibility for the outcome either way? If you could have cast a vote to prevent Hitler from rising in Germany years ago would you have done so or would you have done nothing? I believe you would have most assuredly cast a vote against evil. Like it or not, we are still IN this world for the moment and thus…need to let our lights shine…not hide them.

Anyway, I am not arguing with you…nor am I judging you. I am sure you are doing the best you can to walk out your faith as I am…just sharing my heart as to why I vote. We can both long for the day when Messiah returns to reign, but until then I think we should use any opportunity’s given to us by God to stand against evil out here in exile.

Your comments about the U.S. corporation may be true…not sure what you mean. But corporations are just people. Nothing more, nothing less.

Thanks again and let me know what you think if you wish.

      In Messiah, Tim
